It is what it is, and it is good at being that. If you don't have any experience with this type of case, it is not intended to add "grip" to the device. Adding bulk will help with grip, but it is still silicone and thus still a little slick. Also, like most rubber/silicone items it can attract dirt and lint such as from your pocket.
That said, I like it and it will do until I find something better. Can't beat it for the price and compared to all the other similar devices I have used for various products, this one is easily as good or better than the rest.
The black looks great. I got a blue one for my wife's phone and it is not as vibrant or brilliant as the picture, though.
