hardshell means reenforced by 116 molded plastic. could use a few more pockets. has 2 external pockets 1 for boarding passes & tickets 1for glasses and mp3 player. holds hp tx1000 in neoprene sleeve . if you don't stuff the side near your back its a very comfy riding backpack . wellmade nice looking, does not feel like you have a box strapped to your back. good for commuteing not made to stuff alot into. I have a bad back and i wanted a pack that felt good and settled load correctly on shoulders. does not droop over my butt . .. I'm 6ft. tall 42in chest.
