Price was right and shipping even better!
I wish Micargi would call and apple an apple and not an apple an orange.
The first thing out of the box I noticed a decal calling this "Triplet" bicycle a "Tandem." Why not put a decal on the side saying "Bicycle" it has two wheels just like a bicycle, RIGHT??? Yes, in one sense it is a tandem but for true tandem riders the correct term for a three seater bicycle is a "Triplet" just like for a four seater is called a "Quad" and for five it's a "Quint" and for a six seater it's a "Sextuplet." Call a tandem (two seater a tandem) and call a three seater or decal it as a "Triplet."
With that said, my first look at the bike brought my eyes to the front bottom bracket and I questioned the strength of the weld on this BB? It was not a good smooth weld but a rough and jagged weld. The other BB's looked okay on the welded joints.
Putting the bike together was not hard because I've work on bikes most of my life.
We didn't care for the large ballon tires (26 x 2.30 which seemed to be overkill) that came with the bike and changed them out for narrower more suitable for street riding (26 x 1.25 from Performance Bicycles). It smoothed out the ride and my wife and granddaughers both agree we made a wise choice with the upgraded tires. The only problem we ran into was we wanted schader vales and couldn't find the long stemed type but the ones we did find allowed us to pump the tires up and place a valve cap on the end of the stem. The local bike shops said they are seeing this newer style type rims but currently are unable to locate intertubes with LONG schrader stems to meet the length of the tall rims for the budget bikes being produced.
My suggestion to Micargi and Handhelditems is to carry some narrow tubes for these rims so those who want to upgrade to narrower tires can do so by purchasing from their stock or inventory of inner tubes. Another strong suggestion is to offer this bike with narrow or wide tires to the purchasers to help the consumer from having this problem of no or next to no inner tube availability.
We plan to upgrade the saddles as well but that's more on the ladies end than on the pilot's end. They prefer the wider seats over the narrow style supplied with the bike.
All and all for the price of the bike and the type of riding we do (street or hard surfaces) we are very satisfied with the purchase and would recommend it to any and all new comers to "Triplet" bike riding.
